It's GameDay: Fantasy Gridiron Week 1 Is Here
The first Gridiron season on GameDay Squad starts today. Week 1 kicks off at 10:20am AEST with New England at Seattle, there is over $32,000 in prizes on the line across the season, and every competition is open. Here is what matters this morning.

When each game locks
Lockout is rolling. Only the players in a game lock when that game starts, so the rest of your squad stays open until their own kick off.
Lock (AEST) | Game |
|---|---|
Thursday 10:20am | New England at Seattle |
Friday 10:35am | San Francisco at Rams |
Monday 3:00am | Main slate, eight games |
Monday 6:25am | Late slate, four games |
Monday 10:20am | Dallas at Giants |
Tuesday 10:15am | Denver at Kansas City |
That means most of the squad can wait until Monday morning. Only Seahawks, Patriots, 49ers and Rams cards have to be right today and tomorrow.
Reading this after the first game? You have not missed the week
Week 1 is sixteen games. If New England at Seattle has already kicked off you have missed one of them, and the other fifteen are still ahead of you. Register, open your packs, and fill the fourteen slots that have not locked yet.
Beyond that, this is a weekly game. Prizes pay every week, there are no trade limits, and a squad built in Week 2 competes on exactly the same terms as one built today. The season runs to the finals. There is no version of joining now that puts you behind.
Check the Questionable tags before each lock
Teams name inactives roughly 90 minutes before kick off, which for this morning's game is around 9am AEST. If you are holding a Questionable player in a game that is about to start, decide before it locks.
The safety net covers one zero per week. If a Questionable player is your only risk you can hold him. If you have two or three, the second and third zeros count against you.
Superflex should be a quarterback
Under GameDay Squad scoring a passing touchdown is worth six, the same as a rushing or receiving one, and that pushes quarterbacks clear of every other position.
Position | Top 12 average, Week 1 projection |
|---|---|
Quarterback | 22.1 |
Running Back | 17.9 |
Wide Receiver | 17.7 |
Tight End | 12.4 |
Kicker | 8.6 |
The 12th ranked quarterback for Week 1 projects higher than every running back except three, and every receiver except one. So if you own two starting quarterbacks, both go on the field. One in the QB slot, one in Superflex. A Flex running back or receiver only beats that when he is a genuine top five option at his position.
Fill all 18, then put the risk in the last slot
An incomplete squad scores zero, and that rule has no exceptions. The first job is 18 cards in 18 slots in every squad you have entered.
Once the squad is full the drop rule works in your favour. Your lowest score is removed automatically, so the last slot is the right place for the one player you are least sure about. If he sits, the zero is dropped. If he plays, he counts. Keep it to one.
Enter every competition your cards allow
A Bronze only collection gets you into four competitions this week: Starter, Contender, Classic and Rookie & Sophomore. They are separate entries with separate prize pools, and the same Bronze squad can go into the first three.
Rookie & Sophomore is the one most new coaches skip. It is first and second year player cards only, the cap is 13mil, and the weekly winner takes $75 and a Unique pack. Everyone has the cards for it from day one.
Play the highest rarity you own
The multiplier applies to every point. A Silver card of the same player scores 10% more than the Bronze, a Gold 20% more. In Starter everything is Bronze, but in Contender and Classic the upgrades are what separate two squads built on the same 18 names.
Now go set your squad
Open your packs, fill all 18, and get your entries in before each game locks. Season one of Gridiron on GameDay Squad starts now.
