It felt like there were a lot of eyes on Will Day leading into yesterday’s Easter monday matchup against Geelong. Fantasy coach’s who have had Day on their radars and wish-lists were wondering if he could back up his round 3 centre-bounce-attendance percentage of 65% again in round for and he delivered in a big way! The 21 year old put up a CBA percentage of 82% and a GDS fantasy score of 114 points to go along with all the opportunity. 13 kicks, 9 handballs, 4 marks and 8 tackles is what got Day to 114 GDS fantasy points as he ticks along at an extremely nice scoring rate.
2023 Outlook
The 2023 season could literally turn into anything for Will Day. He’s yet to slip below the triple digits marker in GameDay Squad Aussie Rules scoring, with the floor that he’s creating for himself, he might just surpass a point-of-difference player option and become a must start as the season continues. Sam Mitchell has given Will Day every opportunity to shine, eclipsing 60+% in three games in a row now for centre-bounce-attendance. His high volume midfield role has unveiled skills that I didn’t even know he had in his locker. Particularly his tackling, for slight-ish figure, he’s averaging 5 tackles a game, which complements his aerial prowess and sharpshooter kicking ability wonderfully. There’s a genuine chance Day is an All-Australian contender if he keeps going at this rate… and for fantasy, well… the world is his oyster!
GDS Dynasty Ranking
The writing has been on the wall for Will Day and his fantasy talent for some time. We saw last season that Day had some definite scoring power under his belt but just couldn’t string the games together. To this point in 2023 Day is doing just that, stringing 100+ GDS fantasy points together which is making him one of the more desirable player cards in the game at the moment. A lot of his scoring comes from his new midfield role that coach Sam Mitchell has trusted with Day, and after signing a fresh 4 year deal with the Hawks, he might just have that role pinned down for a while! He’s a must have for me in a dynasty fantasy sense, 21 years old, talent beyond measure, an uncapped ceiling, get your hands on a Will Day card!
Kerm's Call
Listed as a defender for 2023, not only is Will Day an option that fantasy coach’s will have for the next 10+ years but he should be in consideration as soon as next week! He ticks all the fantasy boxes! A positive kick-to-handball ratio, loves a cuddle, can get forward and impact the scoreboard and is a massive threat in the air. If he keeps developing his fantasy floor, Day will be an absolute must start for me going forward.
