BBL Supercoach – Round 9 Preview

Round 9 sees double game weeks for both the Brisbane Heat and the Adelaide Strikers. Let’s look at those key players to take your squad up the ranks.

The first thing to note is the concerns around Brisbane Heat players. This is due to the covid crisis that has ravaged the BBL and sees multiple players within the Heat line-up testing positive to the virus. The Sixers game has been called off and there are further concerns with 15 players and staff testing positive. The remaining heat game also looks to be a washout if it goes ahead. So, it may be a smart bet to avoid the Brisbane Heat stars for Round 9.

Rain looks to also play a major factor in multiple other games this week with only the Strikers matches against the Hurricanes and Stars looking to be safe, so look to load up on them for guaranteed points.

Adelaide Strikers superstar Rashid Khan

Captain choices

Rashid Khan ($152,000)

The most obvious captain choice, while Rashid hasn’t had the highest of highs in the BBL this season, even in his worst match of the season, a wicketless night out against the Sydney Thunder, he was still able to churn out 25 points without catches or runs. Apart from the Round 7 game, Rashid has taken at least one wicket in every other game and has gotten three on two occasions. He also averages 10.1 points per game in dot balls and 10.7 points per game for his economy rate. Rashid could be a safe bet and should provide you with a solid score for the round.

Matt Renshaw ($126,300)

Renshaw came into the season at a bargain-basement price and has delivered well beyond it as after 5 rounds he averages just shy of 50 points a game. He has gone beyond 20 runs in every single game he has played and while he struggled to get a strike rate bonus in his first two, he has averaged 16.7 points per game from the strike rate bonus in the next three rounds. It’s also worth noting that like Rashid, his scores have not been inflated by external scoring sources with only one catch to his name.

The Cash Cows

With rain set to threaten multiple games throughout the round, it’s only 2 real cash cows for me.

Joe Clarke ($149,100)

Sitting with a break-even of -43, Clarke looks to be an obvious candidate to grow your teams value despite already being at a high price. With a 3-round average of 93, he looks set to exceed his breakeven and should be a playing option this week with a season average of 47.6.

Tom Rogers ($170,300)

For me Tom Rogers isn’t just a cash cow, he is a set and forget option for your fantasy team. He has barely been talked about, but Rogers has continued to churn out extraordinary numbers, a season average of 73 places him at the 9th best average of all players, yet he has only been picked in 10.5% of teams. With a breakeven of 3, get him now before he gets too expensive.
